The Day of Atonement is the 6th Festival on the list of God’s Appointed Times in Leviticus 23. Following Feast of Trumpets by just ten days, the Day of Atonement is the considered the holiest day of the year. It is a day of atonement (covering) but it is also a day of judgment. It is a day of national repentance, confession, fasting and prayer. The Day of Atonement also looks forward to the day when Messiah will declare the year of Jubilee: a declaration of freedom from bondage, remission of debt and forgiveness of sins.
