Feast of Trumpets is the 5th Festival on the list of God’s Appointed Times in Leviticus 23 and is referred to as the Jewish New Year. Feast of Trumpets is a festival rich with symbolism, remembrance and anticipation. Perhaps the most significant symbol of this celebration is hearing the shofar blasts (traditionally 100 of them) which are likened to an alarm that warns us with urgency to repent and make things right. Scripture refers to this day as a Day of Remembrance (with shofar blasts). Though the Bible doesn’t specify what the remembrance is in honor of, the many theories ultimately point us to the Messiah, who will return to earth with a shofar blast, gather the exiles, resurrect the dead and usher in the Messianic Era.
